Tanayong PLC Announces Thana City Golf and Country Club Renovation – Absolute Golf Services Appointe
Thana City Golf and Country Club, which boasts the only course in Thailand designed by Greg Norman, is to undergo an extreme makeover in a bid to regain its position as one of the leading golf complexes in the country.
Tanayong PLC announced today that they will be making a 200 million THB investment to upgrade, restore and improve the course and its adjoining facilities. Absolute Golf Services have been appointed to oversee the renovation project and have been awarded the management contract for the golf course and sports club facility. The project will begin in April 2010 and is scheduled to be completed by October, 2010.

The Thana City Golf Course and Sports Club is situated within the 1,600 rai Thana City mixed-use development, which includes residential, business, recreational and other quality lifestyle venues.
The original course opened in 1993 and was designed by Australia’s ‘Great White Shark’ Greg Norman. The Thana City golf course is the only Greg Norman designed course in Thailand.
Facilities include an 18-hole course, comprehensive sports facility, a world class driving range and practice facilities. The golf academy is recognised throughout the region as one of Thailand’s best golf training centres.
The Thana City Golf and Country Club restoration and improvement project will include work on the golf course landscaping and playing surfaces and the reconstruction of two Signature Holes. The Golf clubhouse will be redesigned to provide a welcoming, efficient and friendly “golfer service” environment including new locker and changing facilities, expanded Pro Shop, new restaurant and other improved food and beverage venues. In addition, a key component of the upgrade project will be the establishment of a comprehensive Guest Service Training Programme with the goal of instilling a new culture of service in all members of the Thana City Golf and Country Club personnel team.
The Thana City Golf and Country Club has been the venue for numerous top golf tournaments and is the site of a number of memorable milestones including:
1996: Johnnie Walker Super Tour where Ernie Els, also known as the “Big Easy”, won the tournament after a play-off with Ian Woosnam.
1998: James Kingston won the 1998 Thailand Open in a play-off with Jeev Milkha Singh, the first Indian golfer to become a member of the European Tour. Thongchai Jaidee, who now holds the record for most career victories on the Asian Tour with 12 titles, played the 1998 Thailand Open as an amateur, finishing sixth.
The golf course will continue to operate during the renovation period. The Golf clubhouse will close as of the start of the renovation period, but full golfing facilities will be set-up so as to not inconvenience guests and members.
